Biologen is a historical building dating from 1922 that is now a modern hotel in beautiful surroundings on the island of Herdla, 45 minutes from Bergen.
Biologen originally served as a marine biology research station and can boast international scientists and royals among its former visitors. Biologen now offers culinary experiences created using local ingredients, an extensive wine list, peace and tranquillity, and fantastic accommodation.
Biologist Herdla has 35 modern hotel rooms. All accommodation includes breakfast and free Wi-Fi access.
Biologen Herdla is just a 45-minute drive from Bergen city centre and is beautifully situated at the very north of Askøy island. Herdla is a moraine island formed during the last ice age and boasts sand and pebble beaches.
Biologen has a modern kitchen with staff who put their heart and soul into creating genuine culinary experiences based on local seasonal ingredients. The restaurant enjoys serving seasonal local fish and shellfish, as well as dishes made from the cattle that graze on Herdla. The chefs skilfully compose traditional and modern dishes alike, often taking inspiration from dishes from around the world.
The restaurant has modern furnishings but the historic character of the building is still well preserved. The beautiful brick walls and deep windowsills hark back to days gone by as you enjoy a good glass of wine from the extensive wine cellar, that has a focus on biodynamic and organic wines. Biologen is situated in a historical natural landscape with diverse wildlife that’s wonderful for enjoying this maritime experience. There is a very special atmosphere at Herdla. Driving across the bridge, you arrive in what feels like another world, with a slower pace of life and a closeness to nature.
The large windows in the new part of the Biologen building take full advantage of Herdla's unique daylight and give you the feeling of being at sea.
Biologen is a wonderful venue for meetings and conferences in tranquil surroundings and a relaxing atmosphere. We offer function rooms for all types of gatherings, such as conferences, kick-offs, board meetings, strategy meetings, seminars and team building, and subsequent dinner gatherings. We recommend combining your meeting or conference with an overnight stay in one of our modern hotel rooms.
Our newest conference room is on the ground floor of the new building. It can accommodate up to 48 guests in a classroom setup, and 70 guests in a cinema or dining setup. It boasts panoramic sea views and has direct access to the outdoor area.
There are three smaller function/meeting rooms on the first floor that can accommodate 8, 20 or 25 guests at the long table. The rooms can also be transformed into one large room for up to 55 guests. There is also a balcony with sea views.
Biologen is your warm and generous host for both large and small occasions and events, with venues suitable for everything from weddings to birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas parties, confirmations, baptisms and other celebrations.
The restaurant was elegantly upgraded in 2022 and can now accommodate 80 more guests. Situated on the edge of the ocean on Askøy, Biologen is surrounded by unique natural landscapes, and from our roof terrace you can see both the Hjeltefjord and the Herdlefjord.
Biologen offers activities for large and small groups, including wine tasting, cooking courses, yoga, kayaking, via feratta, bird watching, a museum tour, golf, wind and water sports and a trip to the local country shop.
