Hotels | In the heart of Sandnes city center, a one-minute walk from the train station and right on the cozy pedestrian street called Langgata, lies one of Norway’s most distinctive hotels and restaurants. GamlaVærket Gjæstgiveri & Tracteringssted is more than just a hotel, it is a story.

Its story began when a man named Lauritz Smith Pedersen established Sandnes Teglverk (Brickworks), or GamlaVærket (The Old Factory), as it was known locally. It grew to become a prominent tile production factory and continue to expand its production to several new branches. It was the first industrial factory not only in Sandnes, but in all of Rogaland county, successfully producing and selling clay products such as bricks, pots, and drainage pipes, among others.

Today, the carefully preserved walls that Pedersen build for his factory over 230 years ago transport the guests of GamlaVærket’s hotel and restaurant to an authentic glimpse of Norway’s industrial history. With 28 romantic and cozy guestrooms, individually furnished and styled, GamlaVærket Hotel in Sandnes offers each guest a personalized experience with charming service and amenities reflecting a unique piece of Norwegian history.
